Clarkston

Top Lawn Proudly Serves the Clarkston Area

Formally called the city of the village of Clarkston, it is completely surrounded by Independence Township and is only a half of a mile long. In 1992, village residents voted to re-incorporate the village as a city to preserve its boundaries and local government. Full of lakes and filled with plenty of things to do in nice weather, Clarkston is home to one of the top-ranked amphitheaters in the country.

DTE Energy Music Theatre and Pine Knob Ski Resort

Formerly known as Pine Knob Music Theatre due to its proximity to the nearby Pine Knob ski area and golf course, DTE Energy Music Theatre opened in 1972. It became DTE Energy Music Theatre when DTE Energy purchased the naming rights in 2001. In 2011, Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores purchased all of the Palace Sports & Entertainment assets, including the music venue.

It is a popular summer destination offering some of the nation’s top acts and world-class entertainment events, including concerts, comedy, family shows, and community functions. The venue features a variety of menu items, including food and drinks. In the winter, it turns into a ski resort for winter sports enthusiasts.

Independence Oaks County Park

The largest Oakland County Park, Independence Oaks Park offers 12 miles of natural and paved trails, a beach on Crooked Lake and a boat launch for non-motorized boats such as rowboats, canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats. Other amenities include an archery range, volleyball courts, and a camping area for youth groups. There is a shelter that provides a panoramic view of the lake and is often used for weddings and other special events. Fishing is allowed in designated areas with a special catch and release designation by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. In winter, cross-country ski equipment is available for rent and, in the fall, the northern part of the park is open for archery deer hunting.

Clarkston’s Prestigious Downtown

Designated a national historic site, Clarkston’s downtown area is small but sophisticated. Main street is lined with unique shops, eateries, and businesses. Throughout the year, Clarkston hosts several events, including concerts in Depot Park, festivals, art fairs, and parades. Clarkston’s heritage is reflected in the architecture of the homes surrounding downtown, showcasing its culture. Independent retailers locally own the majority of the businesses downtown. Hungry? Grab some of the Woodshop’s famous mac and cheese and then follow it with a drink at one of downtown’s local pubs.
