Lawn Disease Treatment Service
Lawn Disease Treatment Service
Lawn diseases are generally fungal diseases that affect the grass plants when the right environmental conditions exist. For a lawn disease to get to the point where it is causing damage to your grass, requires three (3) things: A host (susceptible grass type), the pathogen (fungal disease in this case) and the correct environmental conditions. This is called the “disease triangle”. So, if all 3 things are not present at the right time, a lawn disease may exist at very small, manageable population levels and not really cause noticeable damage. But get the right environmental conditions, along with a host and the disease pathogen and things can get out of control pretty quickly.

Common lawn diseases are dollar spot, various leaf spot diseases, Brown Patch and snow mold. Most fungal diseases thrive in warm (above 75 degrees F) and in high moisture and humidity conditions (above 75% humidity). Due to the unpredictable nature of weather, different grass types and prevalence of specific disease pathogens, lawn diseases are hard to predict from lawn to lawn.
Due to the unpredictable nature of lawn diseases, ExperiGreen offers lawn disease control as an extra “alacarte” service, rather than part of a standard program. If your lawn needs a lawn disease treatment, we recommend at least 2 sequential treatments to be effective.

There are a multitude of do it yourself products on the market for lawn disease or lawn fungus control. It is difficult to single out one product or one approach as being the best to control lawn diseases. You need to know the type of grass that you have, what type of disease is affecting the grass and then apply the product in the correct manner. Cultural practices such as proper mowing and watering are important components of an overall disease control approach as well.
You can certainly try to control it yourself, but why not consider the experts at ExperiGreen Lawn Care. We offer a comprehensive lawn care program and if you have an active lawn disease, we will advise you and make recommendations on what to do.

Unless there is a severe infection that is causing visible damage to your lawn, it is generally not recommended to treat for lawn fungus control. In many cases when environmental conditions change, a fungus disease will moderate and grass plants will recover.
Lawn diseases or lawn fungus diseases can sometimes be difficult to identify, but if one looks for some telltale signs, lawn diseases have a lot of the same characteristics. In many cases small brown, purplish brown or straw-colored spots can be found on individual grass plants. As the spots or lesions grow, the entire grass plant may brown out and then you may get what is called “melting out”, where whole sections of grass brown out and start to die. Also look for grass that starts to turn off color and has a wilted appearance as this can indicate the early stages of infection.
If you are unsure of what you are looking at, be sure to call the experts at ExperiGreen Lawn Care. We can identify grass types and the prevalent diseases that affect them, then make recommendations to control the disease and improve the health of your lawn.
